Leaffooted Bug


These guys show up every year about this time. According to Dr. Mario Villarino they are Leptoglossus or Leaffooted bugs.

Jerry; Your tomatoes are dealing with Leaffooted bugs or Leptoglossus spp.The immature stage (nymphs) are just like the photo below. Adults are very difficult to control because can move alot, but immature can be controlled with insecticides approved for vegetable garden use. Always check the products label before use.

When I see a tomato covered with the little orange nymphs, I quickly wrap my hands around the tomato and squash the little buggers! Some fall onto the ground, but they are easy to spot, because they will start moving around. Then I wash my hands!
